I’m a morning person—but Barcelona isn’t. What began as a joke with friends turned into a piano piece (and a videoclip).
Last year I played in Barcelona. While being there, I noticed the contrast. The streets were still half-empty, shutters were still down, and cafés were dark. Meanwhile, the sky was already alight with pale gold. I’d wander, hopeful for a small café, a bakery, or even a neighbourhood shop to open. Often, I found I had to wait. Long wait. At some point I joked to my friends: “Here, nothing opens before 11 a.m.”
They laughed. And then one of them said: “You should write a piano piece about that.”
So I did.
The Piece & Its Story
The composition starts quietly—soft, hesitant chords, like the dim glow that slips through the blinds, like that half-awake feeling when the world is still stretching. Over time, the piece unfolds: warmth builds, rhythms settle, the melody brightens. It’s my musical translation of Barcelona’s mornings—slow to begin, but radiant once they get going.
I’d Love to Hear From You
Do you also have a city that moves on a completely different schedule than you expected? Or maybe there’s a ritual, sound, or mood in your morning that surprised you? Hit reply and share your stories—your “morning revelations,” if you will. I bet there’s something universal in our early hours, wherever we are.
Thanks for being part of this journey. Here’s to more mornings—late or early, loud or quiet—that inspire.
