A couple of months ago, my great friend and brilliant film director Sat Gevorkian reached out with a commission that instantly intrigued me. She asked me to create music for her upcoming dance short film—an artistic exploration that goes far beyond just movement or sound.
The film explores themes that resonate deeply with me. These include human fragility, artistic creation, and the cycle of life and death. Sat has this unique way of weaving different art forms together. These forms don’t just coexist; they actually transform one another. Watching her process reminded me why I love collaborating with artists who push boundaries.
The story unfolds like a dramatic arc. A being faces adversity and struggles. The being slowly transforms a wound into something greater—a work of art. That idea alone felt so close to the way I often approach music: turning pain or doubt into something that speaks beyond words.
Composing for this project was a journey. I wanted the music to show the delicate balance between vulnerability and resilience. It also needed to give the dancer and visuals the space to breathe, grow, and evolve. It felt less like “writing a soundtrack” and more like being invited into a conversation between body, image, and spirit.
Projects like these remind me why I create in the first place. Watch the film on Vimeo.
